Involvement with your community – in this case, the Woodland Hills collection of neighborhoods – helps prepare you to become a responsible and active citizen who understands the challenges locals face, while pushing you to work to improve the quality of life through political and non-political processes. Indeed, maybe you enjoy hanging out with friends, but if you haven’t looked into what you can do in the Woodland Hills community to get involved and make a difference, perhaps you should – getting involved brings with it a lot of benefits. The following locations can be considered when you’re ready to do your good deed for the year.

The Orangutan Conservancy (P.O. Box 513/5001 Wilshire Boulevard #112 in Los Angeles) is a great organization to get involved with if you’re an avid animal lover. The Conservancy is dedicated to the protection of orangutans in their natural habitat through wild research, capacity building, education and public awareness programs, as well as by supporting numerous on-the-ground efforts to save Southeast Asia’s only great ape.

The Woodland Hills Recreation Center, as part of the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks and situated at 5858 Shoup Avenue, offers a plethora of sports programs, camps and other classes including pre-school, Parent and Me, Art Academy, dance classes (ballet, tap, hip-hop and jazz), music classes (including guitar), karate, tennis, yoga, cinema arts, photography, painting and drawing. The Park Advisory Board represents a group of people – residents, individuals and program users plus representatives of other organizations – who reflect the community that the Rec Center serves, and is a great way to get involved in the ins and outs of Woodland Hills affairs.
