Is there anything better than waking up on a lazy Sunday morning and heading to the kitchen (or your favorite breakfast spot) for a delicious stack of pancakes, perhaps drenched with whipped butter and thick, sticky syrup? We sure don’t think so, and as flap jack aficionados ourselves here at Woodland Hills Magazine, we’ve gathered a list of our absolutely favorite pancake joints around the Valley, where a “full stack” represents something truly more.
&Waffles, located at 21028 Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, was established in 2019, but the original location in Studio City opened its doors in 2016; regardless, this incredible pancake-and-more eatery invites you to sample a crunchy cloud smothered in maple syrup, a hefty dollop of delicious butter and strawberries – and that’s just describing the restaurant’s famous waffles. The idea behind &Waffles began with a passion for offering the best breakfast, lunch and waffle specialties in L.A., taking inspiration from breakfast and lunch favorites and adding the element of waffles. Today, the owner’s two sons have taken their father’s inspiration to a whole new level, with &Waffle’s menu now offering something for every pancake aficionado in the Valley – from a delicious Pancake Combo, which includes two flapjacks, three eggs, two pieces of bacon and two sausages, to a short stack when your appetite calls for something a bit less intimidating. Open daily from 7 am to 3 pm all week.
CiCi’s Café, located at 18912 Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, opened its doors in 2006 and specialized in homemade recipes for all different types of breakfast and lunch; starting off with a small menu of eight pages, Chef Cici gave an incredible introduction to her customers with 13 different types of her original mouthwatering pancakes. Amongst her most popular dishes, the Tiramisu Pancakes has taken the hearts of local customers in Tarzana by storm, leading her to strive towards inventing more unique creations for these valued clientele. To this day, CiCi’s Café boasts a menu of over 30 pages and includes more than 80 types of pancakes, French toasts, waffles and crepes – must-try’s include Dutch Baby Pancakes and the silky Chocolate Velvet Pancakes. Open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3 pm and Saturday/Sunday from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
Main Kitchen Café, located at 8901 De Soto Avenue in Canoga Park, was established in April of 2014 and, to this day, prepares everything fresh to order, including citrus juices that are pressed in-house daily. Dubbed a “fresh organic local breakfast, lunch and dinner joint” by the myriad of Woodland Hills locals who frequent the establishment, Main Kitchen Café exudes a cozy, welcoming vibe where all staff members are friendly and quick with a smile, so you can enjoy that stack of flapjacks while soaking in the relaxing atmosphere and throwback blues, R&B and soul music guaranteed to start your weekend morning off right. Open from Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 am to 2 pm and Saturday/Sunday from 7:30 am to 3 pm. Closed Mondays.
Bobby’s Coffee Shop, located at 22821 Ventura Boulevard, has been keeping the tradition of comfort, family, bacon and pancakes alive for more than 70 years. In 1949, Robert “Bobby” Perkins opened the doors to what would become the most popular breakfast diner in all of Woodland Hills – and possibly the whole San Fernando Valley – always hitting the grill despite being the owner, while his wife ran the register and his children took the orders. Working as a cook after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Bobby knew what it took to serve lines of hungry customers every day of the week, taking pride in providing a range of delicacies for construction workers developing the west end of the Valley, businessmen filling up new office buildings, local residents and even kids who would sneak away for a lunch from the local high schools. Open 7 am to 2 pm daily.
Pancake aficionados, rejoice – you can’t go wrong with any of the local Woodland Hills spots in this roundup when a significant stack or flapjack frenzy is the order of the day.
