The nation’s leading retailer of organizing solutions opens its 99th national retail location, offering everything from a curated assortment of storage solutions for all areas of the home to services including complementary in-home and in-store “custom spaces” design.
At the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Topanga Canyon Boulevard in the heart of Woodland Hills sits the beautifully remodeled Topanga Gateway shopping complex, being dubbed a “modern lifestyle center” that offers amenities and retail convenience for San Fernando Valley residents – and beyond. Ideally situated near the Ventura (US-101) Freeway, this neighborhood shopping destination brings household essentials, everyday services and casual dining within reach and close to home for the myriad of Woodland Hills locals in this area. The center’s clean, contemporary architecture features abundant parking and shaded outdoor patio seating, drawing throngs of retailers and shoppers alike who value such often overlooked touches.
Amongst these retailers drawn to Topanga Gateway like a moth to the proverbial flame was The Container Store, the nation’s leading retailer of organizing solutions, custom spaces and in-home services. The Topanga Gateway location was the fifth small-format store, the 99th national retail location and the 16th store in California for the company. The newest Golden State location features a curated assortment of storage and organization solutions for every area of the home, including a full range of custom space options for closets, living areas and garages, as well as unmatched in-home services like in-home organizing and free custom space design.
The Container Store story begins in Dallas, Texas in 1978, when Garrett Boone, Kip Tindell and investor John Mullen opened the doors of the very first location. Though none of them envisioned a career in retail, they became smitten with the idea of a store devoted entirely to storage and organization – it was, as far as they knew, a concept that had never before been attempted. In the beginning, most thought their odd collection of industrial shelving, plastic bins, Swedish-made wire drawers and other assorted items would never find a customer base, but all these years and store locations later, it’s safe to say that this concept exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Fascinatingly, some of the products The Container Store sold on day one are still offered today, including Elfa Drawers, Metro Shelving and milk crates. What’s more, the company sells two products that have been enshrined in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection for the beauty and simplicity of their designs – AMAC storage boxes and Karim Rashad’s Garbino trash can.
With the completion of the awe-inspiring Topanga Gateway shopping center, The Container Store will celebrate their new location on Saturday, January 20th and Sunday the 21st with live product demonstrations, the opportunity to win a $1,000 custom space with free installation and other special offers throughout the day. Beginning at 10am on the 20th, the first 100 customers will receive $20 gift cards and will be able to experience special savings and perks when they sign up for The Container Store’s Organized Insider loyalty program. Organized Insiders enjoy exclusive access to new products, receipt-free returns, birthday and anniversary gifts, invitations to local events and more.
New members, meanwhile, can pick up a free gift on January 20th and 21st at the Woodland Hills store – while supplies last – that includes a special $10 off when they spend $50 (expiring March 31, 2024).
To add to all the celebratory excitement, Elfa, The Container Store’s original custom space system, will be 30% off through February 19, 2024, the wall-hanging system boasting impressively strong and completely adjustable characteristics which makes it ideal for closets, pantries, offices, craft rooms and garages. “Elfa is a DIY enthusiast’s dream, allowing one to add to, change or create their own solution,” explains Satish Malhotra, Chief Executive Officer and President of The Container Store. “Whether it’s wall-mounted shelving or a drawer unit, Elfa can easily be customized to an individual’s specific needs – and that’s what makes these special offerings in connection with our Woodland Hills store opening so timely.
“We’re inviting everyone to love their space for less by enjoying 30% off everything Elfa, from custom spaces for any room – including the new Garage Plus – to door and wall racks, drawer solutions, shelves and storage tracks. This is the ultimate customizable and affordable storage solution for the entire home, and The Container Store is proud to make these products available for our valued customers.”
Inherently, at the core of The Container Store experience is a genuine desire to make the world a better place, one organized space at a time, which is why, beyond the neatly arranged shelves and curated storage solutions, the company finds inspiration in the shared values of compassion and community. Case in point: during the 2023 holiday season, locations across the country were transformed into hubs of generosity – from stores and manufacturing facilities to distribution centers and corporate headquarters. The Container Store teams organized non-perishable food drives, assembled care packages and donated toys and clothes all in the spirit of giving back to the communities where staff members live and work.
