Saturday nights. Summertime. Buckets of buttery popcorn. Going to the cinema. These elements all have one thing in common: They’re as American as apple pie and Cracker Jacks at a baseball game. Perhaps adding even more excitement to the mix is al fresco film watching – indeed, outdoor cinema in Southern California has become almost a summertime birthright. But among all of these outdoor cinematic experiences, one always stands heads and shoulders above the rest in the Woodland Hills area, attracting families looking for a fun Saturday evening out in droves. Free Movies on the Green are held every Saturday evening from dusk to approximately 10 PM at the beautiful Lou Bredlow Pavilion in Warner Center Park, situated on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, as part of the Valley Cultural Center roster of programs. With a full concession stand, plenty of available parking, some of the best movies in Warner Center Park and no-charge entry to the outdoor viewing area, Movies on the Green is gearing up for what is sure to be a scorching summer 2017 schedule, starting on July 22.

Here’s what’s on the calendar for this summer season:

Saturday, July 22 – Dusk – 8:00 to 10:00 PM
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

JJ Abrams turned the cinematic world on its ear when he re-imagined the beloved Star Trek and Star Warsfranchises, and the latest standalone incarnation of the rebooted Star Wars series, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, proved to be a huge hit in theaters with rabid fans. From LucasFilm comes this tale that brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, becoming part of something greater than themselves.

Saturday, July 29 – Dusk – 8:00 to 10:00 PM
La La Land

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star as Mia and Sebastian, an actress and jazz musician pursuing their Hollywood dreams – and finding each other in the process – in a vivid showcase of hope, aspirations and love.

Saturday, August 5 – Dusk – 8:00 to 10:00 PM
Finding Dory

Amnesiac blue tang Dory searches for her long-lost parents with the help of friends Nemo and Marlin, eventually heading for California and the Monterey Marine Life Institute, evading predators along the way as she hopes to find a place she can call home.

Saturday, August 12 – Dusk – 8:00 to 10:00 PM
Classic Flashback: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

In a throwback nod to classics gone by, this timeless comedy drama finds a charismatic high school student who convinces his repressed best friend to play hooky with him and his girlfriend, attempting to bring the young man out of his shell during a memorable day in Chicago.

Saturday, August 19 – Dusk – 8:00 to 10:00 PM
Beauty and the Beast

Disney’s seminal classic is rendered here as a live-action retelling of the studio’s animated legend, refashioning the characters from the tale as old as time itself for a contemporary audience, all while staying true to the original music and updating the score with several new tracks.

The Lou Bredlow Pavilion in Warner Center Park is located at 5800 Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Woodland Hills, and parking for Movies on the Green is available for $10 in the adjacent parking structure on Califa Street, between Owensmouth Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
